Office worker stretching at desk to reset spine posture

Why your spine needs a reset

Sitting shortens your hip flexors, rounds your shoulders, and compresses your lower back. The good news is that a few targeted stretches can reverse much of this tension before it turns into pain.

1. Seated spinal twist

Sit tall and place your right hand on your left knee. Gently rotate your torso to the left, holding for 20-30 seconds. Repeat on the other side. This stretch improves mid-back mobility and reduces stiffness.

2. Standing hip flexor stretch

Stand with one foot back and both heels down. Tuck your pelvis slightly and lean forward until you feel a stretch in the front of your hip. Hold 30 seconds each side. This counteracts the shortening caused by sitting.

3. Doorway chest opener

Place your forearms on either side of a doorway and step forward gently until you feel a stretch across your chest. Hold for 30 seconds. This opens tight pec muscles that pull your shoulders forward.

Make it a habit

Set a timer to stretch every 60-90 minutes. Your spine will thank you, and your productivity often improves along with your posture.
